Rear seats riskier than front seats for injury, research shows (NewsNation) — The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety notes advancement in driver and front seat passenger seat safety over the years, yet rear seat research has been neglected.Now, the institute is scrutinizing the safety of the rear seat passengers directly behind the driver. Seven midsized vehicles were deliberately crashed to assess how a dummy in the rear seat would fare in a car wreck.IIHS's recent research reveals a higher risk of fatal injury for belted rear passengers in newer vehicles compared to those in front. “That’s why we knew it was time to come up with a new test where we look at how well do we protect those individuals who were in the rear seat of the vehicle," said IIHS President David Harkey.The driver dummy represents an average adult man, while the rear dummy emulates a woman or 12-year-old child. Nearly two decades later, the now 19-year-old and her family returned to say thank you and find out more about that day. DEL VALLE, Texas (KXAN) -- One person was injured and another taken into custody after a shooting in Del Valle Tuesday night, according to the Travis County Sheriff's Office. TCSO responded around 10 p.m. after a 911 caller reported someone had been shot in the 7700 block of Lonesome Lane. That area is just north of the South Forks Estates neighborhood. TCSO said a man was transported to a local hospital and a suspect was taken into custody at around 11:30 p.m.

16-year-old charged with murder in Troy homicide TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A 16-year-old was arrested in the homicide of Alexander Crawford after an investigation started on July 2. Troy Police reported that two individuals were involved in an altercation that led to a shooting in the area of 102nd and 2nd Avenue. Man charged for punching stepchild in parking lot of St. Louis County bowling alley CHESTERFIELD, Mo. - Authorities arrested an Illinois man accused of recently punching his stepchild in the parking lot of a St. Louis County bowling alley. Prosecutors have charged Dakota Amerman, 30, of Olney, Illinois with one felony count of abuse or neglect of a child. Multiple people quit within hours at Jennings City Hall According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, the stepchild (a 17-year-old girl) was leaving a bowling alley when she put her hands on her younger sibling's shoulders. Amerman reportedly told the older daughter to take her hands off her sibling, then proceeded to punch her multiple times. Chesterfield police reviewed surveillance footage from the situation and learned that the victim suffered bruises to her left rib cage and back. Amerman admitted to various details in the investigation, per court documents. If convicted, Amerman could face up to 7 years in prison of $10,000 in fines.
