Fear Factory returns with mystery singer: Guitarist Dino Cazares is the sole remaining member of the classic Fear Factory, but still, it’s great to have them back. He’s been keeping the identity of the new singer close to his chest, and as far as we’re aware the guy isn’t a “name” — they’re going in fresh. Should be fun. Lions at the Gate, Infinite Sleep, Against the Grave, Plagues Ov Khaos, Sleeping Faceless, and Slanderus also perform. We spoke to Cazares in the summer of 2021, just as the band was releasing the Aggression Continuum album featuring the vocals of former singer Burton C. Bell.“There’s a big organization – let’s call it Skynet – that is capturing humans and extracting their memories and their mind, their consciousness, and basically uploading them into an automaton so it can think it’s human,” Cazares said. “So it’s a relationship between humans and AI. This AI thinks it’s human but it’s not. Through the whole process of Fear Factory, it’s always been a relationship b...Henry Eric Vanderveen Pronounced Dead in Motorcycle Crash on East End Avenue [Pomona, CA]

Golden State expects to wear down the Lakers’ stars with its fast-paced motion offense. LeBron James is limited by a foot injury already and Anthony Davis has a history of injuries. The Warriors are seven-point favorites to win Game 2.But what if those expected advantages don’t take effect before the final buzzer sounds Thursday night? Published Mon, 23 Dec 2024 15:09:23 GMT
A woman who picked up a bat that was “behaving strangely” outside a Death Valley store was bitten and now is being treated for rabies exposure, the National Park Service said. The bat was sitting on a garbage can outside the Stovepipe Wells General Store on Friday, April 29.A store employee picked it up to move it to an area with less foot traffic, and the animal bit her through her rubber gloves.A test determined the bat had rabies, and the employee is undergoing treatment in case she was infected. Rabies can be fatal to humans, and it can be transmitted when the animal’s saliva gets into a wound. The park service’s press release on the incident said at least nine species of insect-eating bats live in Death Valley National Park. Typically, less than 1% of bats have rabies, it said. When Elizabeth Hoover was hired as an associate professor by UC Berkeley in 2020, the anthropologist was hailed in the campus media as one of the small but growing number of Native American scholars who could help make the campus a more welcoming place for learning and research into Native American history, culture and contemporary issues. But that promise is now mired in controversy, with Hoover admitting she’s “a White person” who “incorrectly” claimed to be Native American for her “whole life.” The situation has prompted calls for Hoover’s resignation and sparked concerns among her students and Native American scholars about UC Berkeley’s academic integrity and respect for authentic Native identity. On Monday, Hoover issued an apology that confirmed what other Native American scholars and activists had been saying about her for more than than a year — that the Ivy League-educated expert on environmental health and food justice in Nati...Davis stabbings: Person of interest detained, other updates from rattled community

With Davis on edge after three recent stabbings — two of them fatal — the city and the University of California campus are urging people not to be out alone after dark.UC Davis has made changes to its schedule and its security staffing this week, including shifting all night classes to remote instruction and extending the hours of its Safe Ride and campus escort programs. Beyond the campus, night events have been canceled and some businesses are closing in the early evening.Attacks in city parks April 27 and April 29 killed two men — one of them a UC undergraduate. A third attack May 1 wounded a woman in a homeless encampment. Descriptions of the stabber in the last two attacks were similar: a light-skinned man about 5-foot-7 and of thin build, with dark, curly hair, and wearing a dark sweatshirt and black Adidas track pants.Police confirmed to the Davis Enterprise that a “person of interest” was detained and questioned Wednesday evening.
