Several districts and one university also have issued alerts that Carl Markley, 44, performed school physicals for their students, although none of the charges against him allege that crimes occurred during those exams. Markley, who is free on bond, is charged with sexual exploitation of a minor, pimping, prostitution and human trafficking. The charges were filed in two batches, and police in Ames arrested him the second time Monday. According to police, the 27-year-old man was loading his car with groceries in the Food4less grocery store parking lot near the 7000 block of South Ashland Avenue around 9:35 p.m. when witnesses say an unidentified man approached him and began shooting. Police reports say the offender fled on foot and the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body.
