Ask Amy: Would it be overstepping to deal with my neighbors’ terrible plant?

Published Mon, 23 Dec 2024 18:35:15 GMT

Ask Amy: Would it be overstepping to deal with my neighbors’ terrible plant? Dear Amy: We have lovely neighbors. They are great. We feel so lucky!I am a professional landscape designer and just a little uptight about my own garden.I try not to impose my anal-retentive obsessions upon others unless they are paying me to do so, but — holy noxious weeds! – my neighbors’ lesser celandine is taking over. This is a terrible, invasive weed that smothers other plants. Native plants and pollinators do not have a chance.I have put up a fence – the nicest one I can. But it is only a matter of time before this plant has spread everywhere. It doubles every year, spreading underground and on the wind and boots of others.Chemical control is the only realistic solution, even according to top, planet-loving experts.Should I offer to have my crew take care of it?These lovely people do not care at all about their garden. That is their prerogative. They have a crew who are the worst I have ever witnessed. They whack down the whole thing to the dirt every fall, cleanin...

Crypto Cash Is Powering Kyrsten Sinema’s Reelection Campaign After leaving the Democratic Party last year, Kyrsten Sinema will run for reelection to the U.S. Senate as an independent in 2024, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal earlier this month. In her bid for reelection as the senior senator from Arizona, Sinema faces a dour approval rating in her home state and will have to fend off a challenge by Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego, who has launched an aggressive challenge to the incumbent. In a hyperpolarized state, winning as an independent could be daunting. But Sinema has amassed a hearty war chest, thanks in part to six-figure contributions from crypto stakeholders pouring in since she joined a congressional caucus that sought to explore issues that would affect their industry. The windfall from the crypto industry completes a two-year arc for Sinema, who went from being a proponent of regulations that some crypto giants opposed to a force for compromise with the industry. The softened legislation on regulations fell by the way...

U.S. reports no new mpox cases for first time since outbreak began For the first time since the first American cases were reported last year, the United States has tallied no new cases of mpox for more than a week, according to figures published Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The milestone comes after cases of mpox, formerly called monkeypox, had begun to slow last year off a summer peak of nearly 500 infections daily around the country. It is unclear how many weeks of no new cases are needed until the outbreak can be declared officially over in the U.S. The Biden administration moved late last year to end the public health emergency it had declared for mpox, when cases were averaging 16 per day.A CDC spokesperson did not immediately return a request for comment.Mpox resulted in painful, weeks-long lesions for most people who were infected by the virus. More than 30,000 cases and 42 deaths from mpox have been recorded by the CDC since the outbreak began in May 2022.Mpox cases have largely been among men who have sex with...
