DENVER (Stacker) — Of the 1,600-plus tornadoes that happen around the world each year, the vast majority occur in the United States.A large part of the central U.S.—dubbed Tornado Alley—has become famous for its high number of annual tornadoes; however, even though it has been enshrined in films like "The Wizard of Oz" and "Twister," the storms can happen anywhere. The Southeast experiences tornadoes at a similar frequency, and even seemingly unlikely states like Hawaii have experienced them.Meteorologists use the Enhanced Fujita scale to classify tornadoes' severity. The storms are ranked on a scale of EF0 to EF5 based on wind speed and related damage, with EF5 storms having wind speeds above 200 mph. Most tornadoes in the U.S. have wind speeds below 110 mph—making them primarily EF0 and EF1 storms. Still, even smaller-scale storms can cause significant damage. EF0 and EF1 storms have contributed to more than $900 million in property damage since 2012, averaging $75,000 p...Donald Trump described Pentagon plan of attack and shared classified map, indictment says

Estonia’s Foreign Ministry banned 58 Russians from entering the country on Friday, including the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, one of the most ardent supporters of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his invasion of Ukraine.“Patriarch Kirill is one of the greatest adherents and proponents of Putin’s ideology,” said Margus Tsahkna, the country’s foreign minister, in a press statement. “It was about time he was blacklisted. He has justified and abetted the war against Ukraine.”The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to the statement, on Friday renewed the recently expired Magnitsky list, which allows Estonia to ban foreigners they found guilty of human rights abuses. In 2022, the Ukrainians and the British imposed sanctions on Kirill, while a European Union effort in June 2022 was blocked by Hungary. But the European Parliament did adopt a resolution condemning Patriarch Kirill’s role in “providing theological cover for Russia’s war...EU countries reject making non-consensual sex a criminal offense across the bloc

Brussels’ plan to class all non-consensual sex as rape across the EU was rejected by national governments. In March 2022, the European Commission presented a draft law aimed at protecting women from violence ranging from female genital mutilation to cyberstalking. It also sought to make all EU countries classify non-consensual sex as rape punishable with a maximum penalty of at least eight years in prison. But after over a year of divisive talks, EU governments on Friday rejected the rape proposal. More specifically, while they backed the law as a whole, they removed the provision about rape. Sweden, which holds the rotating presidency of the Council, had managed to clinch agreement among countries a week ago that moves the EU closer to ratifying the 2011 Istanbul Convention — an international treaty meant to reduce violence against women across Europe. Those negotiations exposed a cultural war between Eastern European countries such as Poland, Hungary and Bulgaria, and ...Arise, Sir Jacob! Boris Johnson doles out knighthoods to top Brexiteers
