Trader Joe's cashiers have a reputation for flirting. CEO says there's a good reason Did it seem like the cashier at Trader Joe's was being more than just friendly while bagging your frozen mandarin orange chicken and 19-cent bananas? The company's CEO understand why you may think that. Workers' holiday brings more action for 'hot labor summer' Monday is Labor Day, a holiday created to celebrate American workers, and picketers and strikers took advantage of the occasion to highlight what they describe as low pay, poor benefits and unsafe working conditions. At the W Hollywood hotel, workers picketed, played drums and chanted outside one of the most prominent and popular hotels in one of Los Angeles' prime tourist attractions.Hotel workers allege that they are unable to afford to be able to live near their workplace, and they're seeking higher wages in their next contract with major hotel chains. It's the latest development in what's been dubbed "hot labor summer," during which Los Angeles city workers, writers and actors, and UPS drivers have gone on strike (or at least threatened to)While hotel workers — and the striking writers and actors unions — have primarily financial concerns, health care workers have different motivations for striking. In particular, Kaiser Permanente's tens of thousands of workers have authorized a s...

Disruptions are part of the event's recent history: Organizers had to temporarily close entrances to the festival in 2018 due to dust storms, and the event was twice canceled altogether during the pandemic. More than a half an inch (1.3 centimeters) of rain fell at the festival site on Friday, disrupting this year's festival.“We are a little bit dir...

College Football Corner: Terps, Hokies win while Prime Time steals the spotlight You can’t win a National Championship, or even a Conference/Division title, on Labor Day weekend but in college football you can win the imagination of your fan base and the spotlight of a nation. At the same time Maryland was warming up for Towson and Virginia was facing No. 12 Tennessee, Colorado was equaling its 2022 win total by stunning No. 17 TCU 45-42 in a game where head coach Deion Sanders’ son Shedeur Sanders threw for 510 yards.
