Ask Amy: Husband’s teasing doesn’t qualify as “humor” Dear Amy: My husband has always had a creative and witty sense of humor, and we have spent many hours in our decade-long marriage laughing until our eyes water. I love the fact that he has the ability to make people laugh.Over the past few years, he has gone from poking fun at me in an actual funny way, to him just being creatively mean.Examples of his humor are: He will pretend he’s limping, dragging his foot behind him and groaning — this started over two years ago when I was briefly hobbled by a broken foot. Honestly at this point I don’t think it’s funny.Another example started during a time when we were playing a trivia game with friends. I blanked on the name of one of my favorite actresses and ever since then he has called me “Movie Buff [followed by a slur used to insult mentally challenged people].”Those and other comments he makes about me feel like an attack on my values and personality and they persist daily, to the point where our children (all under the age...

Bridge: Aug. 1, 2023 “I think I’m mistake-prone,” a player at my club told me ruefully. “In fact, I’ve been making so many mistakes that my regular partner has begun to refer to them as `traditions.'”My friend was declarer at today’s six spades. West led the jack of hearts, and South judged to play low from dummy and take his ace.“I next led a trump to the ace and a second trump, finessing with the jack,” declarer said. “West produced the queen, and the defense cashed two hearts. My partner announced that he could add another error — mishandling trumps — to his `traditional’ list. But wasn’t my finesse the percentage play in the trump suit?”BEST PLAYSouth’s play in trumps was indeed best, but only considering the suit “in isolation.” His best play for the contract was to take the A-K. Wendie Renard uses height, timing to give France a critical scoring option at Women’s World Cup SYDNEY (AP) — Sizing up a fifth-ranked France lineup led by Wendie Renard is important for Panama’s players and coaching staff in planning for their Women’s World Cup group finale.Combating the scoring threat on Wednesday takes it to a higher level, as the Brazilian team found last weekend.“Wendie, she is maybe one of the tallest players in the world,” France coach Hervé Renard said of his veteran team captain. “She has very good timing.”She uses that height and timing to full advantage when she switches from defense to offense mode for the set pieces. Four of Renard’s five career goals at the Women’s World Cup have come from set pieces, including the winner against Brazil last weekend in a pivotal Group F encounter.Brazil’s players and coaches focused on strategies to defend the set pieces against France and were convinced they were ready. Somehow, though, Renard found herself unmarked at the back post to meet a corner kick from Selma Bacha, and in perfect position for a head...
