Students ease into first week of school SOUTH GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Local students have made it through the first few days of the 2022-2023 school year. NEWS10 photojournalist David Miner visited his alma mater to see how the students and staff are settling in.Friday was Day 2 at South Glens Falls Senior High School, and with a new school year brings new memories for both students and staff. Cars vandalized in Washington Park ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -A series of car break-ins being reported around Albany's Washington Park. Police calling these crimes of opportunity. The park is used by not only those visiting, but also local residents as a place to park their vehicles. Stabbing and shooting around the Capital Region As one resident surveyed the damage, she realized her car wasn’t the only one broken into. “I walked out and thought, ‘I didn’t leave my window down.’ Then there was just stuff scattered across the park. It sucked walking out to see multiple people standing outside their cars within a few cars distance from each other. Washington University to adopt 'no-loan' financial aid policy next year ST. LOUIS - Washington University plans to adopt a "no-loan" financial aid policy next year, an effort that leaders hope will ease financial strains for present and future students. Starting in the fall of 2024, WashU will remove federal loans from all financial aid packages. Federal loans will be replaced with scholarships and grants, according to a news release from the university. Irvine police save puppy from overdosing on narcotics Dramatic video shows the moment an eight-week-old puppy was saved from an overdose by officers during an arrest in Irvine this week.Officers had arrested the dog’s owners for possession of narcotics found inside their vehicle that was parked outside a Walmart.After transporting the suspects to the police station, the puppy began exhibiting signs of overdosing on narcotics.Acting quickly, officers administered Narcan to the dog, eventually saving its life. Police believe the puppy had ingested some loose fentanyl from inside the vehicle at the time.Naloxone, also known as Narcan, is an opioid overdose treatment that can rapidly reduce overdosing effects. Riverside County toddler killed in hit-and-run crash A teen hit-and-run suspect was arrested in connection with a crash that killed a toddler and injured her mother in Riverside County.The suspect was identified as a 17-year-old boy from Perris, according to the California Highway Patrol.The fatal crash happened near Steele Peak Drive and Palm Street in the Mead Valley area around 7:48 p.m.As the suspect was riding a dirt bike on Steele Peak Drive, he collided with a 3-year-old girl who was riding her bicycle and her mother who was walking alongside her. The pair were walking on the right side of the roadway at the time, CHP said.After the crash, the teen rode away from the scene without rendering aid or contacting the authorities, officials said.The girl was transported to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries. Bodyboarders rip through bioluminescent waves in California Bioluminescence is not an unfamiliar sight in California, but when it's spotted, it's often aquatic creatures playing in the lit waters.Earlier this week, however, a photographer and videographer captured some humans getting in on the fun.In Huntington Beach, boogie boarders took to the ocean to catch some glowing waves, which are usually the result of plankton called Lingulodinium polyedra, often shortened to L. poly."It’s been a while since we’ve seen it here but the waves this time around were unbelievably bright," Patrick Coyne, who goes by @patrickc_la on Instagram, shared on the social media platform.
