Ravens draft preview: With offensive line help needed, it’s time to think big

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 20:50:07 GMT

The countdown to the NFL draft is underway. The first round begins April 27 in Kansas City, but until then, the Ravens have plenty to figure out. Most notably, their contract stalemate with star quarterback Lamar Jackson, who has requested a trade while under the $32.4 million nonexclusive franchise tag. If he gets his wish, the Ravens’ draft could look a lot different.Baltimore owns five picks: Nos. 22 (first round), 86 (third round), 124 (fourth round), 157 (fifth round) and 199 (sixth round). A blockbuster deal for Jackson would significantly increase the size of that haul, but the Ravens are guaranteed at least one additional first-rounder this year if Jackson signs an offer with another team before the draft and Baltimore declines to match it.As we get closer to the draft, The Baltimore Sun will examine which players at each position of need (quarterback, wide receiver, cornerback, defensive line, edge rusher and offensive line) could be available in the early, middle and ...

Stock market today: Global shares slip ahead of earnings

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 20:50:07 GMT

TOKYO (AP) — Global shares mostly declined Wednesday, as investors took a wait-and-see stance ahead of earnings reports and possible moves by central banks. The price of food in the U.K. rose at the fastest pace in 45 years last month, keeping inflation above 10% for a seventh straight month amid a cost-of-living crisis that has fueled a wave of strikes by government workers. The 10.1% figure was slightly below the previous month’s 10.4%, but still shows the British government and Bank of England are struggling to prevent price increases triggered by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine from becoming embedded in the economy.France’s CAC 40 edged nearly 0.1% lower to 7,527.32 in early trading, while Germany’s DAX dipped almost 0.2% to 15,857.23. Britain’s FTSE 100 lost 0.3% to 7,886.11. The future for the Dow Jones Industrial Average was 0.3% lower while the S&P 500 future fell 0.4%. In Asian trading, Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 slipped 0.2% to finish at 28,...

Supreme Court poised to rule on abortion pill restrictions

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 20:50:07 GMT

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court is deciding whether women will face restrictions in getting a drug used in the most common method of abortion in the United States, while a lawsuit continues. The justices are expected to issue an order on Wednesday in a fast-moving case from Texas in which abortion opponents are seeking to roll back Food and Drug Administration approval of the drug, mifepristone. The drug first won FDA approval in 2000, and conditions on its use have been loosened in recent years, including making it available by mail in states that allow access. The Biden administration and New York-based Danco Laboratories, the maker of the drug, want the nation’s highest court to reject limits on mifepristone’s use imposed by lower courts, at least as long as the legal case makes it way through the courts. They say women who want the drug and providers who dispense it will face chaos if limits on the drug take effect. Depending on what the justices decide, that could include requ...

He quips, “Sometimes I don’t even know my own birthday.”When I said I thought it was strange that he didn’t care to know my birthdate, he accused me of “trying to start a fight.”It seems that if it isn’t about him, he isn’t interested.Am I being too sensitive? In the DarkDear In the Dark: I have often remarked on how important I believe birthdays to be, because this is a day when others are invited to acknowledge and celebrate your very existence. In balanced relationships, partners actually look for opportunities to celebrate one another, because (selfishly speaking) it feels good!Yes, I agree that it is “strange” that your guy doesn’t claim to even want to know the date of your birth (this can be vital information that he might need to supply in case of an emergency).Dear Amy: Our ...
