DC’s crime lab reapplies for accreditation The D.C. crime lab, which lost its accreditation two years ago, appears to be on the road to recovery and helping strengthen the city’s fight against crime.D.C. Councilmember Brianne Nadeau visited the D.C. Department of Forensic Science on Thursday and learned that the troubled lab has begun the process to win back its accreditation.“I was really excited to learn that last month they filed for reaccreditation of the Forensic Biology and Forensic Chemistry Units which helps us address, crime and evidence here in the District of Columbia,” Nadeau said. “They asked for their application to be fast-tracked. And right now it’s being reviewed on paper, and then in early December they’ll have a site visit [to] allow the accreditors to determine any changes or updates that need to be made since their application.”Nadeau added that the crime lab could be reaccredited by January.The lab is responsible for analyzing major crime scene evidence, and its...

‘I’m just so happy’: Miami Gardens woman celebrates 100th birthday with over 100 guests A centenarian celebration was held for one very special Miami Gardens resident.Marie Kennedy Patton celebrating her 100th birthday on Saturday at the Miami Gardens Senior Center.Wearing a tiara and sitting on a large pink and silver chair, she was surrounded by more than 100 guests from around the country.Born in South Carolina, Kennedy Patton moved to Miami in 1952, where’s she worked and lived ever since.The honoree said it feels great to reach the big milestone, and she thanked everyone who showed up for the special occasion.“I want to thank all of my family, my friends, and I just thank everybody. Man wanted for alleged weapons offences in East York Toronto police are asking for the public’s assistance locating a man wanted for weapons offences in East York.On Saturday, a man allegedly attended a residential apartment in the Dawes Road and Gower Street area.Inside the building, the man allegedly discharged an imitation firearm wounding two residents, and fled the area in an unknown direction.Travis Adams, 35, is wanted for two counts of assault with a weapon, use of an imitation firearm, and discharging an air gun/intent to wound.He is described as 5’5″ with a thin build, and has black dreadlocks. He was wearing a grey hooded sweater, black pants, black and white shoes and was carrying a grey backpack at the time of the offence.
