(The Hill) -- A Texas woman has been charged with threatening to kill the judge overseeing former President Donald Trump’s 2020 election case and a House Democrat who is running for Houston mayor.Abigail Jo Shry called Judge Tanya Chutkan’s chambers at the federal courthouse in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 5, just days after Trump was indicted on charges stemming from his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. After investigators traced her call, she later admitted to making the threatening phone call.Court documents show that she called Chutkan a racial slur before threatening to kill anyone who comes after Trump, all Democrats in Washington, D.C., — including Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, a 15-term Democrat who announced in March that she would run for the local election in Houston — and members of the LGBTQ community. She told Chutkan that “you are in our sights, we want to kill you,” according to the documents. What does it take to launch a successful social movement – one that brings pressure on world leaders to bring about actual policy changes?Of course, there needs to be a sense of profound injustice, something that makes a segment of the population break out of their day-to-day focus on meeting immediate needs – food, shelter, earning a living, caring for loved ones – and take to the streets and demand change. There must also be a sense of urgency, the perception that action is needed soon, if not immediately. Either the consequences of inaction will quickly become intolerable or frustration over long enduring social injustice builds to the boiling point.Examples of social movements that have brought about meaningful political, economic, and societal changes include the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960’s, the women’s suffrage movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the anti-war movement in reaction to American intervention in Vietnam, and the outpouring of grief, anger, a...Chef Thach Tran leaves Ace East Serve to devote himself to health food

STANFORD – It would be difficult enough for the Stanford offensive line to replace five players with a combined 142 career starts who all transferred after last season. The Cardinal also have to do it while learning a completely different offensive system. The group of inexperienced underclassmen has spent the offseason getting used to playing with each other as well as adjusting to new coach Troy Taylor’s hurry-up, no-huddle offense, a drastic change from the pro-style offense that Stanford used to run.“It’s definitely been challenging with the fast pace,” said Lucas Heyer, who came to Stanford in 2022 as the top-ranked recruit in Minnesota. “Just to read defenses and get the calls, it’s tough to think that quickly when you’re a little fatigued as well. Pro style, you’re huddling up and catching your breath between plays.“This is completely different. As a unit, we really had to buy in this offseason in getting to a different level of shape and I think we did that.”Heyer and f...Latest news
